Descripción: The Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes (ING) invites applications for the post of Information and Communications Technologies Technician, to provide support and assistance in a variety of operational and project-related ICT tasks. PURPOSE, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Main purpose of the post To provide support and assistance in a variety of operational and project-related ICT tasks. The range of activities that will be undertaken will be broad and will cover many technologies that are in use throughout the ING. Associated duties and responsibilities • To develop, configure, and maintain ING’s ICT infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, networks, data, and associated peripherals. • To monitor system performance, identify and resolve ICT faults and bottlenecks, and implement preventive maintenance procedures. • To provide specialist assistance in system administration, including user account management, access control, software updates, backup strategies, and disaster recovery. • To support telescope operations by ensuring the reliability and availability of ICT services critical to scientific and engineering systems. • To contribute to the design and implementation of new ICT solutions to support ING’s evolving operational and scientific needs. • To ensure system and service resilience through effective business continuity planning and execution. • To maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including system configurations, procedures, and operational reports. • To liaise with external contractors and support providers where necessary to resolve complex issues or implement new services. • To contribute to cybersecurity efforts by applying appropriate policies, monitoring for threats, and implementing mitigations. • To evaluate and apply new technologies, including AI and automation tools, where appropriate, to improve ICT support, streamline operations, and enhance system intelligence.
